Opt-in

An opt-in is the customer’s recorded consent to receive WhatsApp messages from you: by enquiring, transacting or subscribing. Consent-first lists are what keep numbers unbanned and campaigns deliverable.

Definitions checked 2 September 2026.

Opt-in is a person's recorded yes: an affirmative action that names your business and states WhatsApp as the channel, given before you send them any message you start yourself. Ticking an empty box on a form, sending a keyword, scanning a QR code and confirming, giving a missed call to a published number, or saying yes when a telecaller asks "shall I send it on WhatsApp" all count. A pre-ticked box, a bought list and an assumption do not.

It is needed only for business-initiated messages, the templates sent outside the 24-hour window a customer's own message opens; replying to someone who wrote first needs no opt-in. Since Meta relaxed its rules the consent may be collected on any channel, website, app, counter, SMS or call, as long as the business and WhatsApp are named. What matters afterwards is the record: who, when and how, kept where the lead record is, so a dispute or a Meta review can be answered.

For a telecalling team the cleanest place to collect opt-in is the call itself, noted in the remark with the time, with the message going out on that consent. RMDialer, which we make, sends its automatic after-call WhatsApp through the official API, keeps an excluded list that every campaign respects, and pairs the opt-in with the lead so the consent sits beside the call where it was given. The linked guide covers seven ways to collect it and what happens to numbers that skip it.

Opt-in and related telecalling terms, with what each one means
Term What it means
Opt-in The customer’s recorded consent to receive WhatsApp messages from you: by enquiring, transacting or subscribing. Consent-first lists are what keep numbers unbanned and campaigns deliverable.
Quality rating Meta’s health score for an API number, driven by blocks and reports from recipients. It gates your sending limits: too many annoyed recipients and the number’s reach shrinks.
Template message A pre-approved message format the API uses to start conversations at scale, with variables per contact. Approval is what keeps bulk sending inside WhatsApp’s rules.
UCC (Unsolicited Commercial Communication) The regulatory term for promotional calls and messages to people with no relationship to the sender: the specific thing DND, DLT registration and the 140 series exist to control.
Do-not-call status A permanent mark on a customer record that excludes the number from every future list and dial session. Honouring it instantly and forever is both law and brand.

Questions

What do people ask about opt-in?

Do I need opt-in to reply to a customer on WhatsApp?

No. When a customer messages you, a 24-hour window opens in which you may reply freely. Opt-in is for messages you start: templates sent outside that window.

What counts as valid WhatsApp opt-in?

An affirmative action by the person, naming your business and WhatsApp as the channel: a ticked box, a keyword reply, a QR scan and confirmation, a missed call to a published number, or a yes on a call, with a record of who, when and how.

Do I need the WhatsApp Business API to send automatic messages?

Not for one-to-one follow-ups: a dialer can open WhatsApp on your own number with the message prepared after each call. You need the official API for fully hands-free sending, bulk campaigns to hundreds of numbers with delivered and read reports, and message templates. RMDialer works both ways and connects to the API from Meta or any provider.

How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in India?

Since 1 July 2025 Meta charges per template message, at a rate set by the message category and the country (marketing costs the most; replies and utility templates inside an open customer service window are free). Providers add a platform fee. RMDialer does not charge extra to connect an API you already have; you pay Meta or your provider directly for messages.

What do I get without paying anything?

Your phone app, with the numbers you call already organised: the call log with filters, missed calls in their own list to return, contacts, caller ID and spam screening, and call analytics that count your day by outcome and by person. Sending WhatsApp from any call is free every day too, with a free account: 15 sends a day for the first 15 days, then 3 a day. Saving a status, a remark or a follow-up against a call is the paid part.

How to send a WhatsApp message automatically after a call?

Use a dialer with auto WhatsApp: set a message once per call type (missed, incoming, outgoing) and per lead status, and the app sends it the moment the call ends, personalised with the customer's name. From the user's own number it opens WhatsApp with the message ready; through the WhatsApp Business API it sends with zero taps.

How to send bulk WhatsApp messages without getting banned?

Send to people who know you and have opted in, personalise with the name, keep to a few hundred a day from a normal number with gaps between messages, and stop sending to anyone who does not reply or asks you to stop. For larger volumes use the official WhatsApp Business API with approved templates, which cannot be banned for volume and gives delivery reports.

What is a WhatsApp CRM?

A WhatsApp CRM keeps customer chats next to the customer record, so a conversation, its call history, lead status and follow-ups are one file instead of a chat on someone's phone. Built into a dialer, it lets a team reply from the same app they call from, send media and templates, see read receipts, and keep the chat when the employee leaves.

Does bulk WhatsApp from my own number work without an API?

Yes, one message at a time from your phone: the app prepares each message with the name filled in and hands it to WhatsApp, and you tap send. It is safe for lists of a few hundred known contacts. For thousands of numbers, or for reports of delivered, read and replied, the WhatsApp Business API route is the right one.

What is an auto dialer app?

An auto dialer app calls a list of phone numbers one after another so the caller never types a number. On Android, an app like RMDialer runs the session on the phone itself using the SIM already in it: you pick a list from Excel, a Google Sheet, an API or assigned leads, press start, and the app dials each number in turn while you mark the outcome between calls.

What is a telecalling CRM?

A telecalling CRM is customer software built around phone calls: the lead list, the dialer, the call outcome and the follow-up live in one place. The mobile kind, such as RMDialer, replaces the Android phone app on each rep's handset so every call automatically becomes a record with a status, a remark and the next follow-up, and the manager sees the whole team on a web dashboard.

What is the difference between telecalling software and a CRM?

Telecalling software is built to make and track calls (dialing lists, call logs, per-caller reports). A CRM is built to hold customer records and pipeline stages. Most Indian sales teams need both at once, which is why a telecalling CRM combines them: the call itself creates and updates the customer record, so nobody types into a separate system after the call.

What is a CRM dialer?

A CRM dialer is a single app where the dialer and the customer record are the same thing: the call screen shows the lead, and ending the call updates it. It differs from a CRM with "dialer integration", which is two products joined by a sync. RMDialer is a CRM dialer for Android that runs on the user's own SIM.

What is a business dialer app?

A business dialer app replaces the default phone app on an Android phone with one made for selling: caller ID from your own leads, the last remark on screen when a customer rings, two-tap status and follow-up after each call, automatic WhatsApp, and a call log that filters by lead status. It is a personal CRM for one owner and a team system when several people use it.

Is RMDialer free?

The dialer is free forever. Install it, make it your phone app and you keep the keypad, contacts, call log, caller ID, spam screening and your call analytics with no account, no payment and no expiry date. Free WhatsApp sends are included every day once you make a free account. What you pay for is the memory around the call: the lead status, the remark and the follow-up reminder saved against every number, plus list auto dialing, team reports, backup and WhatsApp automation.

  • “Telecaller app for Android that my staff actually use. Enquiry list is assigned to each telecaller, the auto dialer calls it from their own SIM, and test ride bookings come to me live. Punjabi interface for the girls at the desk. Price is honest, everything included, no per-user surprises.”
Harpreet Singh Owner · Two-wheeler showroom Ludhiana
  • “We needed an auto dialer app that works on our own MTN and Airtel lines, not a call centre subscription in dollars. RMDialer runs on the phones my agents already have, dials the enquiry list, and the WhatsApp follow-up goes out after every call. Calls still go out on the SIM when data drops, and the notes sync once we are back on the network.”
Grace Okafor Managing director · Travel agency Lagos, Nigeria
  • “We looked for telecalling software for a nine-person loan team and every quote came with cloud seats and per-minute bills. RMDialer telecalling software runs on the callers' own Jio SIMs: the lead list dials itself, the remark goes on the number, and I get dials, connects and talk time per caller every evening. Cost is one flat price per user.”
Kavita Iyer Operations head · Loan DSA Chennai
  • “Earlier I was dialling 80 to 100 portal leads a day by hand from Excel. With RMDialer auto dialer app I import the sheet, press start and it calls one by one from my own Jio SIM. Between calls I mark Interested or Site visit in two taps and the follow-up rings me on time. Closed 3 flats last month from leads I would have forgotten.”
Rakesh Choudhary Real estate consultant · Property advisory Jaipur
  • “We tried two telecalling CRM software before this and my counsellors stopped filling them within a week. RMDialer is the phone app itself, so every admission enquiry gets logged whether they like it or not. The auto WhatsApp after call sends the fee structure by itself. I see all 4 counsellors' calls on the web CRM every evening.”
