SIM-based dialing

SIM-based dialing: Auto dialing that runs on an ordinary Android phone through its own SIM: the customer sees a real local number, calls cost normal operator rates, and no cloud telephony is involved.

Definitions checked 2 September 2026.

SIM-based dialing is an architecture, not a feature. The dialing engine, the list and the customer record all live on the phone in the caller's hand, and each call is a normal cellular call placed through the SIM in that phone. No server places the call, no number is rented, nothing is billed per minute, and the call works wherever voice works, with or without internet. Only the sync of records to the business account waits for a connection.

The consequence that matters in India is the number on the customer's screen. A SIM call shows the caller's ordinary mobile number, the kind friends and suppliers call from, so it is answered and it can be called back. Cloud dialers call from virtual number ranges that caller-ID apps flag and customers screen, and the same list produces fewer conversations. Since connect rate multiplies everything else a team does, this single difference often decides the outcome of a calling month.

The honest limits are also structural: one SIM makes one call at a time, so scale comes from more phones reporting to one account rather than from over-dialing, and reliable call recording favours cloud platforms because Android restricts it for apps. RMDialer, which we make, is SIM-based dialing with the CRM, reminders and WhatsApp automation in the same app; the linked post walks through the architecture and why India's networks, customers and costs fit it.

Questions

SIM-based dialing: common questions

Updated on

Does SIM-based dialing need internet?

Not for the calls. They run on the mobile network. Internet is used only to sync leads, remarks and reports to the business account, and the app catches up when the signal returns.

Can SIM-based dialing record calls?

Android restricts call recording for third-party apps, so treat recording as a separate question. SIM-based systems record call details and outcomes, not audio; cloud platforms record reliably because the call passes through their servers.

What is the difference between a power dialer and a predictive dialer?

A power dialer calls one number at a time for one agent and waits for that call to end, so every answered call has a person ready. A predictive dialer calls several numbers at once and connects the ones that answer to whichever agent is free, which needs a call-centre server and causes dropped "silent" calls. Mobile auto dialers like RMDialer are power dialers on a SIM.

Why do customers not answer calls from virtual numbers?

Because caller ID apps and phone dialers increasingly flag pooled virtual and VoIP numbers as spam or business calls, and because the same virtual number is often used for many campaigns. A real mobile number from a local SIM looks like a person calling, which is why SIM-based dialers report higher connect rates in India.

What is an auto dialer app?

An auto dialer app calls a list of phone numbers one after another so the caller never types a number. On Android, an app like RMDialer runs the session on the phone itself using the SIM already in it: you pick a list from Excel, a Google Sheet, an API or assigned leads, press start, and the app dials each number in turn while you mark the outcome between calls.

Does RMDialer work on iPhone?

No. RMDialer is an Android app because iOS does not let a third-party app replace the phone dialer, read the call log or place calls automatically. It supports Android 8.0 and above. The owner's Web CRM works in any browser, including Safari on a Mac or iPhone.

How does an auto dialer work on a mobile phone?

The app becomes the phone's dialer, reads a list you give it and places each call over the SIM the same way you would by hand, only without the typing. After each call it waits a few seconds (the gap you set), shows a two-tap outcome sheet, then dials the next number. Busy and unanswered numbers can be retried automatically at the end of the list.

Which is the best auto dialer app for Android in India?

For small and mid-sized Indian teams the best fit is a SIM-based auto dialer that runs on the phones they already own, because customers answer normal mobile numbers and there is no per-minute bill. RMDialer, Runo, GoDial, Calley and NeoDove all offer this; they differ on whether a CRM, WhatsApp automation and team reports are included in the same price.

Can I auto dial numbers from an Excel sheet?

Yes. Save the sheet as Excel or CSV with a mobile number column (name and any other columns are optional), import it in the app, and start a session. The dialer calls the rows in order and lets you mark each outcome. The same works from a Google Sheet, which can also be connected as a live source so new rows import themselves.

What is a good gap between auto-dialled calls?

Five to ten seconds. That is enough to save the outcome of the last call and glance at the next lead's details without breaking rhythm. Set it longer, 15 to 20 seconds, for teams that write a proper remark after every call, and shorter for confirmation or reminder campaigns where the script is fixed.

Can an auto dialer skip busy numbers and retry later?

Yes. When a number is busy, switched off or not answered, the session marks it and moves on. Those numbers are retried automatically at the end of the list, and anything still unreached stays in the list for the next session, so nobody has to re-import or re-sort the sheet.

Is an auto dialer legal in India?

Yes, for calling your own leads and customers. An auto dialer is only a faster way to place normal SIM calls, so the same rules apply as for manual calls: do not call numbers registered on the national DND list with promotional offers, honour opt-outs, and follow TRAI's rules for commercial communication. Calls to people who enquired with you, existing customers and service calls are routine.

What is a SIM-based dialer and how is it different from cloud telephony?

A SIM-based dialer places calls from the SIM in the user's own phone, so the customer sees a normal mobile number and the call costs whatever the operator plan charges. Cloud telephony routes calls through a virtual number on a server and bills per user plus per minute, in return for features like IVR and recording. For outbound sales on mobile numbers, SIM calling gets answered more often and costs far less.

Do I need a virtual number to run a calling team?

No. A virtual number is only needed when calls must be routed through a cloud platform, for example for an inbound IVR. An outbound sales team can run entirely on business SIMs in the reps' phones, with the app logging every call and the owner reading the reports. Customers also answer known mobile numbers more readily than unfamiliar virtual ones.

Can I use two SIMs for business calling on one phone?

Yes. On a dual-SIM Android phone the dialer lets you choose which SIM makes each call, or set a default business SIM for all sessions. You can also decide which SIM's calls are backed up and reported, so personal calls on the other SIM stay out of the team account.

  • “Telecaller app for Android that my staff actually use. Enquiry list is assigned to each telecaller, the auto dialer calls it from their own SIM, and test ride bookings come to me live. Punjabi interface for the girls at the desk. Price is honest, everything included, no per-user surprises.”
Harpreet Singh Owner · Two-wheeler showroom Ludhiana
  • “We needed an auto dialer app that works on our own MTN and Airtel lines, not a call centre subscription in dollars. RMDialer runs on the phones my agents already have, dials the enquiry list, and the WhatsApp follow-up goes out after every call. Works even when the network drops and syncs later.”
Grace Okafor Managing director · Travel agency Lagos, Nigeria
  • “We looked for telecalling software for a nine-person loan team and every quote came with cloud seats and per-minute bills. RMDialer telecalling software runs on the callers' own Jio SIMs: the lead list dials itself, the remark goes on the number, and I get dials, connects and talk time per caller every evening. Cost is one flat price per user.”
Kavita Iyer Operations head · Loan DSA Chennai
  • “Earlier I was dialling 80 to 100 portal leads a day by hand from Excel. With RMDialer auto dialer app I import the sheet, press start and it calls one by one from my own Jio SIM. Between calls I mark Interested or Site visit in two taps and the follow-up rings me on time. Closed 3 flats last month from leads I would have forgotten.”
Rakesh Choudhary Real estate consultant · Property advisory Jaipur
  • “We tried two telecalling CRM software before this and my counsellors stopped filling them within a week. RMDialer is the phone app itself, so every admission enquiry gets logged whether they like it or not. The auto WhatsApp after call sends the fee structure by itself. I see all 4 counsellors' calls on the web CRM every evening.”
