Survey Calling Software in India: Human Panels vs Robo Polls
By Pushpa Godara · Chief Executive Officer, Wappblaster
In short: For surveys needing real answers: customer feedback, research interviews, NPS conversations: use human callers on an auto dialer: response quality and completion rates justify the labour. Press-1 robo polls scale cheaply but survive only for one-question yes/no measures at mass volume. A small feedback operation runs perfectly on a SIM dialer: script on screen, responses as structured remarks, outcomes per respondent.
“Survey calling software” buyers arrive from two directions: research firms and political operations wanting scale, and ordinary businesses wanting customer feedback: and the right machine differs completely. The split is the same one running through all of automated calling: humans talking, or recordings playing.
Human-interviewer surveys (the auto dialer model)
A real person works the respondent list with a script, records answers, handles the “why do you ask?” moments. This is standard auto-dialer work wearing a research hat:
- Response quality: humans achieve completions robo polls dream of: they clarify questions, earn trust, and keep respondents past question two
- The setup: respondent list imported, auto-dial session with a generous gap (12-15 seconds: answers need writing), the questionnaire as structured remarks or custom fields per respondent
- The output: every respondent a record: answered/refused/callback statuses, retry cycling for no-answers, and completion counts per interviewer, automatic
For business-feedback use: post-service NPS calls, post-delivery check-ins, lapsed-customer exit interviews: this model is not just better, it is the only one that returns usable answers, and it doubles as relationship maintenance: the feedback call that also saves the customer.
Press-1 robo polls (the broadcast model)
A recording asks, keypresses answer: paise per call, lakh-scale reach, single-digit response rates, and answers only as deep as a keypad. Legitimate for one-question mass measures (the political-polling staple) with the full registered-telemarketing compliance attached. Structurally wrong for anything needing a second question answered honestly.
The hybrid worth stealing: WhatsApp-then-call
For business feedback in 2026, the highest-yield pattern is neither pure: a WhatsApp message (“2 questions about your recent [service]: reply here, or we will call at [time]”) followed by human calls to non-responders. The message harvests the easy answers cheap; the call rescues the silent majority; and both write to one record per customer, so feedback connects to the relationship it describes: which is the entire point business feedback has that research surveys do not.
The honest sizing rule
Under ~500 respondents with more than one real question: human calling on a SIM dialer: a two-person team clears it in days at ₹159/user tooling cost. Tens of thousands of one-question datapoints: robo polling, bought from a compliant broadcast vendor. And if the “survey” is really your own customers’ happiness: it was never a survey project at all: it is follow-up calling with better questions, and you already own the machine for it.
