Short answer
How does SIM based call tracking tell you which ad worked?
RMDialer tracks calls on ordinary SIM cards and tags each call with the SIM that carried it. To see which ad works, give each campaign its own SIM: one number on the pamphlets, another in the newspaper, your old number on the shop signage. Every call on a line is then a call from that campaign. The log filters by SIM, and the analytics count calls, missed calls and talk time per SIM for any period, so two campaigns can be compared side by side. Customers dial and see an ordinary mobile number. The honest limit is scale: two lines per dual-SIM phone, more with more phones. RMDialer has no virtual numbers and no dynamic number insertion, so tracking individual website visitors or dozens of sources needs a virtual-number service instead.
Key takeaways
Every call is tagged with the SIM that carried it.
One SIM per campaign turns the line into the source.
Calls, missed calls and talk time count per SIM.
Customers dial an ordinary mobile number, not a virtual one.
No virtual numbers or website-visitor tracking.
The method
How do you track which campaign made the phone ring, using SIMs?
No servers and no forwarding: a SIM for each source, and an app that reads which SIM every call arrived on.
Give each campaign its own SIM
A cheap prepaid SIM for the pamphlets, the existing number for the shop signage, another for the newspaper classified. A dual-SIM phone carries two campaigns; a second phone doubles it.
Every ring is tagged by line
The call log marks each call SIM 1 or SIM 2 and names the operator, so the moment a call ends you know which printed number the customer dialled.
Count by line, any period
The analytics screen filters by SIM: calls, missed calls and talk time for the pamphlet line this week against the newspaper line, side by side.
Carry the source into the lead
When a caller becomes a lead, the status and remark note the campaign, and leads that arrive by import keep the sheet or portal they came from, visible in the Web CRM.
Sources beyond the phone
Where do you see the source of leads that arrive by import?
The Web CRM's lead profiles filter by import and by employee, and the leads-added-by-day chart splits every lead into imported, manual, transferred or added from the handset.
Putting a SIM line and an import side by side covers most small businesses: callers are credited by the line
they rang, form and portal leads by the import they came through. Turning those leads into a routed,
assigned calling list is the job of SIM
based lead management software, and the full walkthrough of tracking a team's own calls sits in

What businesses say about RMDialer
Real businesses, real numbers: how owners and sales teams across India and 12+ countries use RMDialer every day.

“Telecaller software that my counsellors actually open, because it is the phone app itself. Demo bookings from the website land in the queue, get dialled the same hour, and the WhatsApp with the course link goes out after each call. Four stars: the Excel import wanted the number column named exactly, so my first upload took two tries.”

“Earlier I was dialling 80 to 100 portal leads a day by hand from Excel. With RMDialer auto dialer app I import the sheet, press start and it calls one by one from my own Jio SIM. Between calls I mark Interested or Site visit in two taps and the follow-up rings me on time. Closed 3 flats last month from leads I would have forgotten.”
“We tried two telecalling CRM software before this and my counsellors stopped filling them within a week. RMDialer is the phone app itself, so every admission enquiry gets logged whether they like it or not. The auto WhatsApp after call sends the fee structure by itself. I see all 4 counsellors' calls on the web CRM every evening.”

“Employee call tracking without a call centre was exactly the requirement. 12 field executives on their business SIMs, and by evening I have calls, connected, missed and talk time per employee on my phone. Nobody types a report. Two people who were "on calls all day" turned out to be doing 11 calls. Fixed in a week.”

“We connected our website form and a Google Sheet as lead sources. New sign-ups appear in RMDialer within 15 minutes, get assigned round robin and dialled the same hour. Speed to lead went from a day to under an hour, and demo bookings roughly doubled. The call logs API pushes everything back into our own dashboard.”

“Sinhala and Tamil interface, calls from Dialog SIMs, and a manager view of every executive's calls. The auto dialer handles our lease-expiry lists and the follow-up rings the executive, not a shared inbox. We looked for a telecalling CRM built for how Sri Lankan teams work and this was it.”

Four ways to credit a call
How does each call tracking method know where a call came from?
Every method links a call to its source through one thing the caller does. The table compares what that thing is and what it costs.

A worked example
How did a mattress store find out which of its ads was working?
A mattress and bedding store in Mysuru, spending every month on print, radio and street advertising.
The store ran four things at once: a weekend newspaper classified, a thirty-second FM radio spot during
the morning drive, pamphlets slipped into newspapers in nearby layouts, and a hoarding on the ring road.
Every one of them carried the same shop number, so when the phone rang nobody knew why. Asking callers
produced "I saw it somewhere" more often than an answer.
The owner bought three prepaid SIMs and put them in the two shop phones beside the old number. The
pamphlet and flyer run got one line, the radio spot another, the newspaper classified a third; the
hoarding and the shop signage kept the old number, which also collected walk-in regulars. A laminated
card by the counter listed which source code went with which SIM, so staff greeted a radio caller with the
radio offer.
Six weeks of counts per SIM settled an argument that had run for a year. The pamphlet line rang the most,
but mostly with price-checkers on short calls. The radio line rang less and talked longer, and more of
those callers came in to lie on a mattress. The newspaper line barely rang at all. The classified was
dropped, the radio spot got a second slot, and the pamphlets were reprinted with the showroom-visit offer
that the radio callers had responded to.
Honest limits
When do you need virtual tracking numbers instead?
SIM based tracking is the cheap, familiar option for a handful of sources. Past that, it is the wrong tool.
You want to know which web page, keyword or visitor produced a call. That takes dynamic numbers drawn from a number pool, which RMDialer does not provide.
You run more sources than you can sensibly hold SIMs for, say ten ads across five cities. A virtual-number service scales without adding phones.
You need calls routed through a menu or a ring-back queue before anyone answers. That is IVR territory, not a SIM feature.
SIM call tracking, call tracking with SIM cards: one method
"SIM call tracking app", "call tracking with SIM cards" and "SIM based call tracking system" all describe the
same approach: using real mobile lines, rather than rented virtual numbers, to see where calls come from and
what happens to them. Whether you think of it as an app on the phone or a system for the shop, the SIM tag on
each call is what does the work.
You will also see it called sim based call tracking, sim call tracking app, call tracking with sim cards and sim based call tracking system. They describe the same thing, so whichever phrase
brought you here, this is the page for it.
How it works
How do you read one campaign's calls in the app?
1
See which line each call came in on
The call list tags every row with its SIM, and the chips under the list filter to one line at a time.
2
Count one campaign's calls
Pick the SIM chip on Analytics to see calls, missed calls and talk time for that campaign's number alone.
3
Note the source on the lead
As the call ends, pick the status and write the campaign in the remark, so the source travels with the customer.
Questions
SIM based call tracking software: questions about sources and lines
What is SIM based call tracking software?
SIM based call tracking software records the calls made and received on ordinary mobile SIM cards and tells you which line each call used. Used with one SIM per campaign, that line becomes the source: the number printed on the pamphlet rang, so the pamphlet produced the call. No virtual numbers or call forwarding are involved.
Which is the best sim based call tracking software for offline advertising?
RMDialer is the best sim based call tracking software for businesses that advertise offline and want to know which newspaper, flyer or hoarding made the phone ring. Every call carries the SIM it came in on, the log and analytics filter by SIM, and the customer dials an ordinary mobile number rather than a virtual one.
Is RMDialer sim based call tracking software?
Yes. RMDialer is sim based call tracking software for Android: it becomes the phone dialer, tags every incoming and outgoing call with its SIM, counts calls and talk time per SIM, and keeps missed calls from each line in view until someone returns them. It does not issue virtual or tracking numbers.
How does call tracking work?
Every call tracking method links a call to its source through something the caller does: dialling a particular number, quoting a code or answering a question. Virtual-number services give each source its own number on a server. A SIM based setup does the same with real SIM cards, one per campaign, and reads the line off each call.
Can I track calls from a newspaper or radio ad?
Yes, by giving that ad its own number. Print a dedicated SIM's number in the newspaper and use another for the radio spot, and every call on those lines is a call from that ad. The count per SIM for the campaign weeks is your answer, without asking a single caller where they saw you.
What is a tracking number?
A tracking number is a phone number used for only one source, so every call to it can be credited to that source. Virtual-number vendors rent them by the month. A dedicated prepaid SIM does the same job as a tracking number for offline campaigns, with the advantage that it is an ordinary mobile number.
Does RMDialer offer dynamic number insertion for websites?
No. Dynamic number insertion shows each website visitor a different number from a pool so a call can be tied to a single visit, and it needs virtual numbers. RMDialer does not do that. For web leads, a form or WhatsApp button carries the source far more reliably than a phone number anyway.
How many campaigns can I track with SIM based tracking?
Two per dual-SIM phone, and many phones also take an eSIM as one of the two. A shop with two phones can run four numbers. Beyond a handful of sources, virtual numbers are the more practical tool, and it is worth being honest with yourself about how many sources you really run.
Can I see missed calls per campaign line?
Yes. The analytics filter by SIM includes missed and rejected calls, and the Lost Lead view keeps unreturned missed calls until someone rings back. A campaign that produces calls nobody answers is worse than no campaign, and this is where you catch it.
Do customers see a strange number when I use SIM tracking?
No. Each campaign line is an ordinary mobile number, and when you call back, the customer sees the same number they dialled. That familiarity matters in markets where people ignore unknown landlines and virtual numbers.
Can one salesperson answer several campaign lines?
Yes, two lines per phone. The call screen and the log show which SIM rang, so the salesperson can greet a pamphlet caller with the pamphlet offer. Outgoing calls can go on a chosen SIM, or ask every time, from the Default SIM setting.
How do I track the source of leads that do not phone in?
Leads imported from a Google Sheet, Excel file or connected form keep the import they came from, and the Web CRM filters leads by import and shows leads added by day as imported, manual, transferred or from the handset. The phone line covers callers; the import covers everyone else.
What is the difference between call tracking and call logging?
Call logging keeps the list of calls. Call tracking asks a further question of that list: where did each call come from, and what happened next. With one SIM per campaign, the log becomes tracking because the line itself is the answer.
Is a separate SIM for each campaign expensive?
Usually less than a single month of most virtual tracking numbers. A prepaid SIM needs a recharge to stay active, and incoming calls are typically free on it. Keep a simple sheet of which SIM number is printed where, so a year later nobody is guessing.
Will SIM tracking work if customers save my number and call months later?
It will credit the call to the line they saved, which is the campaign that first brought them in. That is usually what an owner wants to know. If a customer first saw a pamphlet but calls from a later newspaper ad, only asking them reveals both.
